Initially, this is really a useless program. It is there as a helper program for the print-to-fax driver.
As an experienced Notes user may know, there is an option in the ID file property that said :

"Share password with Notes addin"

This option is introduced in Notes 4 because of user complaints about prompting for password each time they run VIP or some other VB programs (using HiTest). This option allows 3rd party programs to run without being prompted for password again and again so long Notes is also running.

Actually, it needs not be Notes that is running but any program that use the Notes functions. XtraNote is designed to be this
program that initally serve the purpose of 'locking' a Notes session to free print-to-fax driver prompt users for password again and again each time they print.

For workstations running NT, XtraNote serve and additional purpose for communicating the print-to-fax driver with the current logon user (XtraNote is a must for NT because of its security model).

To summerize, XtraNote is primarily there to avoid multiple password prompt when 'print-to-fax'.
