Extracomm Inc. is proud to announce ExtraTxt 3.1. This version is released as a software update and it is available at no charge to all the customers who purchased the ExtraTxt Maintenance plan.
What's New in ExtraTxt 3.1?
New features and enhancements
This version incorporates the following new features and enhancements:
1. Texting Solution for VMware Environment
- VMware ESXi does not support direct connectivity of local GSM modems.
- To solve this problem, we provide a solution which makes use of network GSM modem.
- No driver installation/No additional machine is required.
- Multiple modems are placed in a single box.
- 1,4,8 ports network modem models are available.
- Completely integrate with your virtualization environment.
2. Do Not Call List
- In some countries, businesses are not legally permitted to send promotional SMS to phone numbers that have been registered on the "Do Not Call List" without prior consent of those recipients.
- Blacklist checking: prevent ExtraTxt from sending SMS to these phone numbers.
- Whitelist checking: override the blacklist in case the consumers occur in the Do Not Call List but they expressed consent for sending SMS to them.
3. Dynamic Numbers for 2-way SMS
- When sending 2-way SMS, sender ID of the message is dynamically assigned from a pool of preset mobile numbers.
- As a result, it is not necessary to require each user to have his own dedicated number when sending 2-way SMS.
4. SMS Sweepstakes
- A promotional marketing campaign that gives your customers the chance to win a prize.
- This can engage your customers, increase your brand awareness and improve your customer loyalty.
5. Text Responses
- Allows your customers to request information on demand by texting a keyword to a short code.
- This lets your customers text to receive instant details, links to web sites and links to download apps.
6. Web Widget for Subscription List
- Alternate means of entry of subscription list.
- Letting you potentially reach more people than you would through SMS alone.
- After you have embedded the web widget on your web site, people can sign up your subscription list from the web.
- Verification code will be sent to subscriber to confirm the inputted mobile number.
7. Intra-network SMS
- In some countries, carriers charge less money for intra-network SMS than for inter-network SMS.
- By providing mobile number and its carrier information, messages will be routed to a port so that intra-network SMS can be achieved.
New fixes and updates
- In Merge SMS screen, a link is provided to explain the file format of the CSV file.
- User can select sender ID in the Compose SMS screen.
- Enhanced outgoing message screen. More detailed information is shown.
- Enhanced received message screen. Sender ID and received time are displayed at the top of the screen.
- Improved performance to upload a CSV file in Merge SMS function.
- Added descriptive information under the title of the list views.
- To prevent the ambiguity of the word "Cancel", cancel button in the show view was changed to a return symbol.
- Improved memory management for server component.
- Subscribers under a subscription list can be exported to a CSV file.
- In Inbound/Outbound Routing Configurations, multiple conditions can be specified.
- Renamed "Short Codes" as "Numbers/Short Codes"
- Used selection box in the "Account belongs to" field.
- Endless message loopback prevention logic was added.
- System administrators can send testing messages to their phone in the port configuration screen.
In this way, they can test the port and know the phone number of the SIM card according to the sender ID of the received testing message.
- Fixed a bug that for some carriers, if a message is sent to a mobile phone and that phone is turned off, a CMS500 error will be returned.
- Fixed a bug that only part of content of development log is collected to the database.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes a message has been sent but the sent log reports "Cancelled by Server" status.
- Fixed a bug that sometimes multiple instances of SMSPC were launched when the device manager was retrying to connect to the port.
- Fixed a bug that for Email-to-SMS, the content read from the email may contain some null characters at the end of the content.
- Fixed a bug that in Backup function, login will fail if the login user ID contains space.
For new installation:
1. Download and install ExtraTxt 3.0 VM
- Go to Extracomm download page to download ExtraTxt 3.0 VM.
- Follow the installation instructions mentioned in the ExtraTxt 3.1 Installation Guide.
2. Update to ExtraTxt 3.1
- Open your web browser to login ExtraTxt as "Administrator".
- Select "System Management"->"Update".
- Click "Check for update" button.
- Select the ExtraTxt 3.1 update and click "Update" button.
- Select "Confirm Update" to confirm the update.
- Click "Save" button to start the update.
- Wait until the update process is finished.
- Done.
3. Verify ExtraTxt Version
- You can verify the ExtraTxt version by viewing "System Management"->"System Configuration"->"General Information"->"ExtraTxt Information".
How to update from ExtraTxt 3.0:
1. Backup your ExtraTxt
- Before updating your ExtraTxt Server, at a minimum, please perform a full backup by running the backup from "System Management" -> "Backup" in ExtraTxt. It is however highly recommended that you backup the full ExtraTxt virtual machine image files in the event of problem and you need to revert the server to its previous state prior to the ExtraTxt server update. (Please shutdown the virtual machine before copying the virtual machine files.)
2. Update to ExtraTxt 3.1
- Open your web browser to login ExtraTxt as "Administrator".
- Select "System Management"->"Update".
- Click "Check for update" button.
- Select the ExtraTxt 3.1 update and click "Update" button.
- Select "Confirm Update" to confirm the update.
- Click "Save" button to start the update.
- Wait until the update process is finished.
- Done.
3. Verify ExtraTxt Version
- You can verify the ExtraTxt version by viewing "System Management"->"System Configuration"->"General Information"->"ExtraTxt Information".
4. If you are using Remote Port Server, you need to upgrade it to Remote Port Server 1.2.5.
- After updated your ExtraTxt server to 3.1, go to the machine that remote port server has been installed before.
- Uninstall the Remote Port Server from "Control Panel"->"Add or Remove Programs".
- Open web browser to login ExtraTxt as "Administrator".
- Go to "System Management"->"System Configuration".
- Click "Download" to download Remote Port Server 1.2.5.
- Run the setup program to re-install Remote Port Server 1.2.5.
How to update from ExtraTxt 2.x:
To upgrade from ExtraTxt 2.x, first you need to upgrade to 3.0 by performing a backup from your existing ExtraTxt and restore it to a ExtraTxt 3.0 VM. (For more information, please refer to here.) After you have upgraded to 3.0, please follow the section "How to update from ExtraTxt 3.0" in this article to upgrade your ExtraTxt from 3.0 to 3.1.
